Finisterre

Bristol
2016

Finisterre Bristol was to be the flagship store for the brand in the southwest. 70 Park Street had strong Georgian and Victorian features, but had suffered from years of modification and poorly thought-out renovation.

Finisterre pride themselves on the longevity of their clothing, choosing fabrics and hardware that age well, and driving an encouraging shift towards repair and sustainable renewal. These values strongly echo our own and provided the basis for our conscious selection of materials and form.

Being careful to retain and reinstate the period features that give 70 Park Street its provenance and personality, we chose to contrast the honesty of the building with forms inspired by the subtle Japanese cuts that lend Finisterre clothing both functionality and elegance. The Japanese motif was then extended into the furniture design, which is characterised by simple organic lines and highly crafted finishes.

Our intention at Finisterre Bristol was to contribute to a space that will age graciously, but tells of a modernity that bridges the building to the product.
