The Orangery, Porthledden
Cape Cornwall
2017-2019
After its completion in 1909, Porthledden was one of the last examples of Jacobethen architecture to come out of the nineteenth century. By the mid-twentieth century, the Grade ll-listed and, brief but former residence of De Beers diamond mining chairman, Francis Oates, had fallen into disrepair.
The building has undergone extensive restoration work in recent years. The objective of this major renovation of its Renaissance revival-style orangery, is a retuning of its interior to reflect contemporary modes of life, whilst also retaining something of the spirit and spacial quality of the original architecture.
